Extended Care is an individualized residential program designed to support the client while they address issues such as shame, grief, loss, isolation, depression and basic life skills. Recovery from addiction is a multi-staged process, as is the return to active addiction. Pre-lapse (change in thinking) or lapse (return to active addiction) are stages generally referred to as "relapse." Pr elapse is best described as primary or secondary denial and lapses occur when only partial recovery is achieved.
The trigger mechanisms from alcohol, heroin, marijuana, and cocaine are different. Each type of chemical dependency requires specific treatment to prevent relapse. Information received in this program will enable the participant to identify negative behaviors and prevent relapse. Abstinence is only a prerequisite for sobriety. True sobriety is emotional maturity.
